This Pinot Noir comes from limestone dense soils and grapes farmed biodynamically from an estate that was founded in the late 1600s in Alsace, France. The estate is currently run by brother and sister, and they employ absolutely minimal intervention winemaking in a way that preserves and amplifies the distinct terroirs within Bollenberg. The wine itself is explosive with red currants and spearmint in the glass and dried thyme and grated cocoa on the palate that lingers for minutes. Texturally the wine has soft acidity and a very well-integrated tannin profile. The Zusslin estate employs additive SO2, but at very low levels which speaks volumes to how well the wine is showing with time - an incredible effort and showing.
