Barrel #27 - Cheyne's Jam
Barrel # 27 is a magnificent specimen of MGP's 51/49 rye/corn mashbill. It belongs in a museum. Tasting through a glass is reminiscent of baking an autumn pie start to finish. The nose is bright and lifted with green apple skins and raw turbinado sugar like when you're prepping the ingredients. The first sips assemble flavors of buttered crust, brown sugar and sweet clove oil. As your palate basks in the surprisingly silky 125 proof, warm green papaya emerges with a whiff of cumin on the sweet finish. There's plenty to deconstruct in this 8yr Rye, yet the whole dram is seamless and balanced.
